The association

PRESENTATION :

State recognized by the decree of 10/13/1977. Founded in 1969 by Peter Firmin Didot, who was the first sponsor, state-approved in 1977, under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, the association des grandes orgues de Chartres has developed forty years of international reputation activity affecting a wide audience. Its board consists of 19 members with representation from the state, the Centre-Val de Loire Regional Council, the General Council of Eure-et-Loir, the town of Chartres, and institutional partners such as the International Stained Glass Centre, the Society of Authors, Composers Music publishers (SACEM). It currently has nearly 200 members plus a score of friends and volunteers who actively contribute to the reputation of the association for the organization of concerts, the reception of concert performers and the public.

SUPPORT AND PARTNERS :

The association des grandes orgues de Chartres enjoys the recognition and support of the State (Regional Direction of Cultural Affairs) and local authorities Centre-Val de Loire Regional Council, General Council of Eure-et-Loir, City Chartres. It is also supported by organizations such as the Academy of Fine Arts (Institut de France), SACEM (Society of Authors Composers and Music Publishers), ADAMI (Civil Society for the Administration Artists & Musicians interpreters). Its action is also supported by the Rector-Archpriest of Chartres Cathedral with its service which facilitates the organization of concerts and events. It also maintains partnerships with companies and foundations through the Cultural Patronage.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES :

Discovering the machine-organ from the organ in the church of St Pierre de Chartres, and at the Cathedral: These sessions involve the general public and school.

THE ‘DAY OF THE ORGAN’ :

As part of the national operation “The Organ Day” wich held each year throughout France on the second Sunday of May, concerts & presentation of instruments held as at Chartres in several towns in the department.
